Now that January is over we can give up the pretence of ever sticking to our New Year’s resolutions – so now’s the time to download Divine’s free app, packed full of delicious chocolate recipes (& much more)! In addition it tells the unique story of Divine, the company co-owned by cocoa farmers in Ghana.

Search for ‘Divine App’ on the App Store (in the Lifestyle category). It’s free to download.

Created for Divine by creative agency Uber London, the Divine App was designed to bring a little Divine happiness to every Smartphone and iPad – with exclusive features for those who love baking with chocolate. There is a diverse selection of recipes for cooks of all standards, including a heavenly white chocolate cheesecake, an old fashioned chocolate pudding, chocolate & cherry torte, a chocolate fudge cake created for Divine by Tom Aikens, healthy chocolate pots created for Divine by Ian Marber aka The Food Doctor, a seriously tempting sticky peanut butter cake created by Linda Collister, author of the recipebook accompanying BBC2’s Great British Bake Off … and lots more.

Divine Chocolate has announced the highlights of its Chocolate Week 2011 plans. Started back in 2003, the Chocolate Week has been voted the nation’s favourite themed week and comprises all sorts of chocolatey happenings at tearooms, chocolate shops, hotels and restaurants across the UK.

Farmer-owned chocolate company Divine Chocolate has been a sponsor of Chocolate Week since it was created and is once again co-sponsoring this nationwide celebration of chocolate which this year is being held from 10-16 October. It has teamed up with chefs, hotels, restaurants and tearooms to offer exclusive new recipes and Divine-themed chocolate events across the country.

For a full list of events visit www.divinechocolate.com/chocolateweek (new events added daily)

Below is just a small selection of Divine’s activity this year …

The Grand Imperial at The Grosvenor Hotel in London will be serving chocolate dim sum on its afternoon tea menu. Back by popular demand, The Orangery at Kensington Palace will be hosting Divine Chocolate Afternoon Tea.

Exclusive cocktails inspired by and using Divine will be on offer at the chic Sanderson Hotel in London’s West End, including the deliciously tempting Divinitini made with Divine Milk Chocolate, Grand Marnier, Crème de Cacao and vodka. Divine cocktails will be served in the bar all week at K West Hotel in London, including Strawberry Delight made with Divine’s White & Strawberry Chocolate, Smirnoff vodka and crème de fraise. The newly re-opened Boyd’s Brasserie just off Trafalgar Square will also be serving cocktails made using Divine’s acclaimed dark chocolate.

A number of partners are busy creating special Chocolate Week puds using Divine. The award-winning Kingham Plough in the heart of The Cotswolds has developed a Divine Chocolate and Salted Caramel Millionaires Shortbread which comprises a frozen salted caramel parfait, a shortbread biscuit, dark chocolate tuilles and sauce. The hugely popular Healthy Life Bistro in Devizes, Wiltshire will be serving a Mayan Spiced Chocolate Cake, combining chocolate, orange zest, mace and clove as well as a Chocolate Brownie Cake. At the four star deluxe hotel The Lancaster London overlooking Hyde Park, a very unique offering will be available to diners. A special Chocolate Week dessert has been created using delicious Divine dark chocolate and honey made from the 500,000 bees which sit on top of the hotel itself! Divine Chocolate Fudge Cake with Mascarpone & Lancaster Honeycomb will feature on the Island Restaurant menu all week, priced at £4.50.

Divine tasting sessions will be taking place at cafes and stores across the country including London’s most prestigious department store Liberty in London, Kennards Deli in London’s Bloomsbury, Wholefoods Market Camden, Alder Carr Farm shop in Suffolk and The Healthy Life in Wiltshire.

Widemouth Manor Hotel in Bude, Cornwall is going all out for Chocolate Week, hosting Divine Fondue Nights, a Divine Truffle Making workshop, and Divine Afternoon Tea. Other events in Cornwall include Divine treats at The Cowslip Tearoom in Launceston and The Rectory Tearoom in Morwenstow and Divine desserts at The Wellington Hotel in Boscastle.

The Gore Hotel next to the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington has been described by the media as the most photographed and most romantic hotel in London. Divine and The Gore have teamed up to produce the UK’s first ever Divine Chocolate Board. A sensory experience where the diner chooses three different flavours of Divine chocolate to taste, to which is added a scoop of Divine ice-cream, Divine chocolate truffles and fresh berries, the chocolate board concept which makes a tempting alternative to a cheese board. The Divine Chocolate Board will be on offer in the Bistro as well as special Divine offerings in the starter, main and pudding sections of menu!

Divine is pleased to have joined forces with London based eco taxi firm Climate Cars, with chocolate available for customers across an entire fleet of cars.

Divine Chocolate, the chocolate company owned by cocoa farmers, has announce its Christmas 2011range, which this year includes two brand new products.

Divine’s new chocolate box duo contains solid chocolate discs made with dark chocolate and peppermint crisp, and the other containing dark chocolate discs with real raspberry pieces. As with all Divine products, the discs are free from artificial flavourings, colourings and preservatives. A Divine signature is imprinted on each disc – four of the pretty Adinkra symbols from Divine’s packaging decorate the discs giving a hint to Divine’s Ghanaian heritage.

Divine’s Advent Calendar is back with a detailed new colour illustration. An illustrated globe shows the journey from cocoa bean to bar and the celebration of Christmas around the world. Inside each of the 24 windows sits a solid milk chocolate heart (which is suitable for vegetarians) behind which the story of the Nativity is told. On the back of the calendar you can read about how Fairtrade is good for farming.

The boxed chocolate discs and Advent Calendar will be available from Waitrose from the end of September. Also available at Booths, Liberty of London and Oxfam, RRP £4.50 (100g). Both are available for vegetarians.

Other festive offerings are milk chocolate Gold Coins and Christmas Puddings. Divine Gold Coins (RRP £2.00, 75g net) available from Liberty’s and Oxfam. The Christmas Puddings from Divine’s sister brand Dubble are available from Booths and Liberty’s (RRP £2.00, 80g nets).

Divine’s latest 100g bar combines rich dark chocolate with citrusy orange and warming, spicy ginger. It is available at Sainsbury’s supermarkets nationwide (and Sainsbury’s online) RRP £1.69.

The Divine Tropical Collection includes Dark Chocolate-Coated Brazil Nuts, Mangos and Apricots. They are each priced at RRP £4.50 and available from Oxfam and wholefoods stores (suitable for vegetarians). The entire Christmas range can be found online at the Divine Chocolate Shop.

Divine Chocolate, the Fairtrade company co-owned by cocoa farmers, has been invited to be the official chocolate bar at this year’s Glastonbury festival. A variety of bars will be on sale at the main festival stores including a limited edition milk chocolate bar with a specially designed wrapper exclusive to Glastonbury.

Divine will be running a series of promotions, including a really exceptional prize for one lucky winner during the festival – one bar will contain a Golden Ticket giving the winner stage-side access to the Pyramid Stage on the final night.

Glastonbury’s head of sponsorship, Robert Richards, explains that Glastonbury is committed to environmental and ethical standards – which include being careful regarding the brands the festival is associated with wherever possible. “We have made sure that the Festival promotes good environmental and ethical practice as much as possible. The tea and coffee on sale is Fairtrade, and we have felt for some time that the chocolate should be too. Divine was our clear choice – not only is it 100% Fairtrade, but it’s also farmer-owned, and independent just like Glastonbury.”

Sophi Tranchell, Managing Director of Divine Chocolate adds, “Divine and Glastonbury are obvious soul-mates – as well as sharing ethical values, Divine is all about delicious fun, indulgence, sharing and being sociable – the ideal festival companion.”

On sale at Glastonbury will be one limited edition 45g milk chocolate bar with a special Glastonbury wrapper, plus five 100g bars – milk chocolate, milk chocolate with orange, dark chocolate with ginger and orange, 70% dark chocolate, and white chocolate with strawberry. Inside one of the 100g bars will be a Golden Ticket giving the winner and a friend an exclusive stage-side view for a performance on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 26th June.

To celebrate the achievements of women, Fairtrade confectionery company Divine Chocolate is joining up with ethical jewellers Ingle & Rhode to launch the first ever Divine Women Awards.

Divine Chocolate and Ingle & Rhode is inviting public nominations in a search to find the most Divine Woman in the UK, between the 8th of March and 8th of April 2011.

They have enlisted the help of ethical-campaigner Livia Firth to help select a winner. Divine says, “Everyday, women everywhere in the UK make real and lasting positive changes in their communities, yet they are so often taken for granted. Divine Women are those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in people’s lives and now it’s time to give them the recognition they deserve.”

The ultimate winner will be awarded a prize of a bespoke pendant worth over £1,000, made with Fairtrade and Fairmined 18 carat gold from Ingle & Rhode.

Livia Firth says her Divine Women would be “The novelist Clare Sambrook, who launched the very successful campaign against child detention last year, Esme Peach, for working with Clare and for work on creating and running the EQUALs campaign, and Maya Foa, the wonderful campaigner for Reprieve.”
